A coil lamp treats the coil. This mounts in the supply plenum and treats the air as it moves, so the treatment travels out through the ductwork to the rooms you actually sit in. Whether that is what you need depends on what is wrong with your air.
The Straight Answer
Most HVAC purification is mounted at the coil. That works on the coil surface and does very little past it. The REME HALO LED installs in the supply plenum instead, so it acts on the air stream the system is about to deliver, and the treatment is carried through the ducts to the occupied rooms.
It uses LED-based ionization with RGF's PHI and REME technologies. For a device running inside your ductwork the specification matters more than the marketing: a replaceable long-life LED cell, ionizers that clean themselves rather than needing attention, and a washable hybrid catalyst rated for high-load use.
It is mercury-free and zero ozone compliant. That is worth asking about with any ionizing product, because not every device sold in this category can say it, and ozone generation has been a real problem with some of them.
What Prompts The Call
These are the complaints in-duct treatment is actually suited to. Notice that none of them are about dust you can see, which is a filtration problem rather than a purification one.
Cooking, pets and general staleness that does not stay where it started, because the duct system is carrying it everywhere the air goes.
Common in tightly sealed Florida construction, where the airtightness that lowers the power bill also means very little fresh air gets in on its own.

How It Differs
Filtration, coil UV and in-duct treatment get discussed as if they compete. They do not. They act in different places, and the right one depends entirely on which problem you have.

The Total Comfort Way
Five steps, and the first one is the one that decides whether the other four are worth doing.

If your problem is growth on the coil, a coil light addresses it directly and costs less. If it is the air throughout the property, in-duct is the better fit. Plenty of homes have a reason for both, and plenty have a reason for neither.

Ask this about any ionizing air purification product, from anyone. Ozone generation has been a genuine concern with some devices sold in this category, and a contractor who cannot answer the question about a product they are proposing has not done their homework on it.
The LED cell is the ongoing cost. It has a long service life, but it is a consumable and it does need replacing, and that is the figure to get in writing before you commit.
Beyond the cell, upkeep is light. The ionizers are self-cleaning and the catalyst is washable, which removes most of the routine attention older designs demanded.
It should not, and we measure rather than assume. Airflow and static pressure are evaluated as part of the installation, because anything placed in a duct has the potential to alter the balance the equipment was set up around.
The same check serves the purification working properly, since correct positioning in the airflow path is what gives it its reach.
It runs while the HVAC system runs, because it needs air moving past it to do anything. In Florida, with cooling operating for most of the year, that adds up to good coverage in practice.
If your system cycles unusually little, a rarely occupied property for instance, say so before you choose. You would be getting proportionally less treatment for the same purchase price.

If the real issue is humidity, a dehumidifier addresses the cause. If it is growth on a damp coil, coil treatment targets it. If it is dust and pollen, better filtration is cheaper and enough on its own. This suits odours, VOCs and whole-property air treatment.
