How Heating Actually Works Here

Most East Central Florida homes and businesses heat with a heat pump. It is the same unit that cools in summer, running its refrigerant cycle in reverse, backed by auxiliary electric heat strips for the coldest mornings. There is usually no furnace involved at all.

Two consequences follow, and they shape every page below this one. Heating service here is electrical and refrigerant work rather than combustion work: reversing valves, heat strips, defrost boards, contactors, thermostat communication. And because the heating side may sit unused for most of the year, problems tend to appear the very first time the system is switched to heat.

That second point is why the whole region discovers its heating faults inside the same forty-eight hours, and why autumn is worth more than any other month on the calendar for this equipment. A fault found in November is an appointment. The same fault in January is a queue.
