First Cold Front Problems

A heat pump running but delivering cool air in heating mode usually points to a reversing valve fault or auxiliary heat that is not activating. The system sounds fine, which is exactly what makes it confusing.
A system that will not change over from cooling to heating is typically a reversing valve, thermostat communication or control signal problem rather than a failure of the equipment itself.
Auxiliary electric heat strips carry heavy electrical load. Burned or damaged strips, or a defrost board fault, leave the system without backup heat at exactly the moment it is needed.
A breaker tripping during heating operation almost always means an electrical fault under load, often in the heat strips or their contactors. Each reset adds stress rather than fixing anything.
